St. Patricks day is one of those holidays that you either love full heartedly or stay away from it like the plague. It suffers from the perception that the holiday can only be celebrated by getting blackout drunk and forgetting where you parked the car or who you are. I personally don't celebrate any holiday like that. But I do love to celebrate my Irish heritage so I usually have corned beef and cabbage and a Guinness. I have a few cocktail ideas that will help you celebrate to the extent that you want to.
Black Velvet
Champagne cocktail
Ingredients
Champagne
Guinness draught stout
Recipe: In a champagne flute, pour Guinness then pour champagne on top of it.
Pro Tip: I tend to go for the extra dry stout but it's a matter of taste. You are going to get both flavors at once so make sure you like the combo of beer and bubbles.
Irish Maid
Irish whisky cocktail
Ingredients
1 1/2 oz Irish whiskey
3/4 oz Elderflower liqueur
1 oz Lemon juice
1/2 oz Simple syrup
Three Cucumber slices
Garnish: Cucumber slice
Recipe: In a shaker with ice, muddle cucumber slices then pour Irish whiskey, elderflower liqueur, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Shake until cold. Pour into a double old fashioned glass with ice. Garnish with a cucumber slice.
Pro Tip: For the muddled slices, cut the cucumber into circular slices to muddle more juice. For the garnish, do a long strip or slice to help stir and look pretty.
A lucky shot
