Not Basic but Basic for People who loved Mad Men

Updated: Jan 9, 2023

It's Friday night and date night for me! So before I head out for Friday night shenanigans, I wanted to share my go to twist on the classic old fashioned. This cocktail is perfect for when you are having a cozy date night in with your desired partner. The change from the regular orange to a blood orange adds a certain sweetness and delicacy that can make even the most bourbon shy person a little more comfortable. Everyone knows a little whiskey does the trick.

Ingredients

2 oz Bourbon

1/2 oz Cointreau

1/2 oz Blood Orange Juice

Three dashes Angostura Bitters

One Brown Sugar Cube

Garnish: Blood Orange Peel and Blood Orange Slice

Recipe: In a mixing glass, pour bourbon, cointreau, and Blood Orange juice. Stir. In an old fashioned glass muddle a blood orange slice with the bitters and sugar cube. Add ice (preferably one cube). Pour from the mixing glass into the old fashioned glass. Add in the blood orange peel. This cocktail is for sipping by the fire with your snuggle buddy. It's strong but not overpowering. A perfect switch up to the date night cocktail and oh so perfect for the winter.
